Our Story

WHO ARE WE?
The inspiration behind “BTTMPWR” comes from a combination of different social/cultural terms. A play on the words; “bottom power” and “power bottom”.

A “power bottom” is someone who dominantly or energetically enjoys the submissive or receptive role in a relationship. “Bottom power” is a term coined by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, from a TEDtalk on feminism (famously sampled in Beyoncé’s “Flawless”). She loosely defined “bottom power” as a form of power attained by someone who uses their own means to get things from men or tap into another, more dominant, person’s power.

BTTMPWR seeks to blend and reclaim those terms. We want to use our platform to empower all the“bottoms” of the world. The people who have been marginalized, overlooked, or ignored because of something that society deems undesirable. Whether it be communities of color, LGBTQ+, women, victims of abuse, or anyone who feels like their voice is not being adequately heard.

BTTMPWR seeks to be a small part of a bigger change in leaving the world a better place than we found it.

WHAT WE DO:
The BTTMPWR brand has two main components: the blog + the

shop. Our goal is to use both of those as a platform to promote and empower our audiences.
We pledge to donate 10% of all proceeds generated from our custom brand pieces to different non-profits, charities, and philanthropic organizations devoted to a particular issue affecting at-risk minority groups. Each unique piece will have its own unique fundraising effort.
BTTMPWR also strives to be as conscious as possible, so in an effort to promote the environmental value of re-using & re-purposing apparel, we also offer our vintage collection of clothing of items rebranded under the BTTMPWR brand.
The aim of our blog is to create a welcome space for people to express diverse cultural & social perspectives about anything. We invite anyone interested in writing guest blogs to submit their resume, sample of their work, and their pitch to contact@bttmpwr.com.
